You don't have to hit rock bottom

Online Substance Use Counseling in Colorado

You also don’t have to walk in already knowing exactly what you want to do about your substance use.

Maybe you’re drinking or using more than you want to. Maybe it’s creating problems in your health, relationships, work, mood, or self-respect. Maybe other people are more concerned than you are. Or maybe you’re simply asking yourself a question you can’t quite shake: Is this becoming a problem?

YOU MIGHT BE HERE BECAUSE...

Part of you wants things to change. Another part may not be so sure.

You keep setting limits for yourself and then crossing them.

Alcohol or drugs have become one of your main ways of coping with stress, anxiety, anger, boredom, pain, or sleep.

Someone you care about has told you they’re worried.

You’ve had consequences, but you’re not sure whether you identify with the word “addiction.”

You’ve stopped before and eventually found yourself back in the same place.

You want to understand what role substances are actually playing in your life before deciding what comes next.

You do not need to prove that your problem is “bad enough” to talk about it.

HOW I APPROACH SUBSTANCE USE

Honest, practical, and without the lecture.

I’m dually licensed in Colorado as both a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Addiction Counselor. My work in behavioral health and addiction treatment began in 2009.

That matters because substance use rarely exists in a neat little box. Anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, stress, identity, habits, physical health, and the reasons you use in the first place can all be part of the picture.

I’m not interested in shaming you, arguing you into change, or forcing you to use a label that doesn’t fit. I am interested in being direct about what I see and helping you look honestly at what is working, what isn’t, and what you want your life to look like.

Therapy should be useful outside of therapy. We’ll work toward changes you can actually use when real life shows up.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE 100% READY

Ambivalence is part of the work.

Wanting to change and wanting to keep using can exist at the same time.

That tension is common. We can talk about it without turning the session into a debate.

Your goals may involve stopping completely, reducing use, understanding your patterns, preventing relapse, rebuilding after consequences, or simply figuring out whether you want to make a change at all.

We’ll start where you actually are, not where somebody thinks you should be.

WHAT WE CAN WORK ON

More than the substance itself.

Understanding the pattern

Looking at triggers, routines, cravings, consequences, beliefs, environments, and the situations where your intentions tend to disappear.

Motivation & change

Working through mixed feelings about changing your use and identifying reasons for change that actually belong to you.

Coping without relying on substances

Building other ways to handle stress, anxiety, anger, boredom, loneliness, sleep problems, and difficult emotions.

Relapse & getting back on track

Understanding what happened without turning a setback into evidence that change is impossible.

Relationships & trust

Addressing secrecy, conflict, broken agreements, resentment, boundaries, and the impact substance use can have on the people around you.

Co-occurring mental health concerns

Working with the anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, relationship stress, or other concerns that may be intertwined with substance use.

DUAL LICENSURE

Mental health and substance use belong in the same conversation.

I’m licensed as both an LPC and LAC in Colorado and have 17 years of counseling and behavioral health experience.

You should not have to choose between talking about your mental health and talking about substance use. We can work with the whole picture.

My approach draws from CBT, DBT, ACT, mindfulness, motivational work, and other evidence-informed approaches, while staying focused on what is actually useful for you.
